WELCOME TO THE SUSTAINABLE BLACKSBURG BLOG

Sustainable Blacksburg is a non-profit (501-3c) organization run solely by volunteers who wish to live more in balance with their local environment.

The PURPOSE of this blog is to provide a way for SB Members to SHARE their ideas and experiences about sustainable practices within the Blacksburg, VA area.  We feel that there is a need for better communication among us, and we hope that this blog will help us obtain this goal.

The TABS at the top of this page show TOPICS that we currently have on this page.  When you click on each tab, you should see a brief introduction to that topic, and places below where you may add your comments (ideas, challenges, or whatever).

Note that blogging is new to us, and there is LOTS of room for improvement!  Please send your comments and suggestions for improvement to Bill Claus at clausgw@verzion.net, or place your comments below.

Two thoughts that might stimulate your thinking before you click on a TAB:
  • Aldo Leopold (1887-1948) said long ago that ". . . the oldest task in human history is to live on a piece of land without spoiling it."  He also said that, "...we abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us.  When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect."
  • And, John Muir is reported to have said, "When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.
