FOOD SUSTAINABILITY
I believe
that one of our goals should be to become more sustainable in what we
choose to eat. Ideally, our foods should be produced by:
- People we know and trust
- People who treat their animals and soil with respect
- People who avoid using toxic pesticides as well as antibiotics, growth hormones, and other artificial materials in their animal's feed
- People who practice organic farming methods
We
especially wish to support:
- Our Blacksburg Farmer's Market
- Local and regional farm-to-table restaurants
- Fair-trade goods
- The YMCA Community Gardens
- Businesses that gather local produce and deliver it to those who buy subscriptions prior to the growing season
One way is to help inform folks about what is happening at the Blacksburg Farmer's Market. Here is a list of their Spring events and their hours through March of 2012.
